Disney Plans Tron Remake [Slashdot.org]
NOOO!!!! This once again proves that all of Disney’s creativity is now past-tense, and they can’t do anything other than recycle stuff that worked before. I’m predicting that this will be closer to The Net or Hackers than anything geekably cool. People complain about how tech-bogus Tron was, but it was groundbreaking at the time. Think about books like Snow Crash or Neuromancer, both coming out a couple of years after Tron. Neither was that accurate in terms of technology, but they got the imagination going, and started the ball rolling. Tron is arguably the grandfather of cyberpunk, and should be handled carefully, but Disney doesn’t have a good track record here.
